Fursuit Repairs:

Popped Seams:

Fursuits are hand made, wearable art.. because of this they aren't factory perfect! With age and use popped seams can occur. Some areas where popped seams are common are areas of high stress, areas such as: Armpits, crotch seams, zipper edges, and handpaws. Though they are common, there is no need to worry! Popped seams are fairly easy to repair even for those who don't sew frequently.

Remember that thread type is very important when repairing a suit! If you are doing any hand sewing then make sure to use upholstery thread, standard thread is best for machine sewing but usually isn't strong enough for hand sewing.

Skyehigh Studios has a great tutorial on how to do some basic fursuit stitches that can be used for repairs, you can view that video  through the the link below!

Glued Parts:

There are many areas on fursuits that use glue instead of being sewn, with age glue can come loose! Most will reach for their hot glue gun out of panic, but often times hot glue will only make matters worse.. here are some common areas on suits that use glues and how to repair them if they ever come loose!

Rubber Footpaw Soles:

The rubber on the bottom of fursuit feet is typically attached using an industrial glue. Hot glue does not stick to rubber or plastic so industrial glue must be used for any repairs on this fursuit part. E6000 (clear or black) is a common glue brand that fursuit makers use for this part and is strong and effective. Just peel back whatever part of the sole is loose, apply the glue generously, and push it back down. It takes about an hour to cure enough for it to hold on its own, so it is best to pin or tape down the loose sole to the footpaw while the glue hardens.

Fursuit Claws and Teeth:

Fursuit claws and teeth that arent made of fabric tend to be glued into the fursuit directly. Because of this, often times you might loose a claw or two with age. No worries though! These can be re-attached lickity-split! The best type of glue to use for these types of fursuit parts is Locktite Superlue. This industrial hardens almost instantly which makes it great for convention repairs when your wanting to get back onto the con floor! Just take the tooth or claw that fell out, apply the glue to the base of the part, and re-attach to the place it fell from. Easy peasy! Be careful though.. this glue is VERY strong and does not come off of fabric OR skin. If you get it on your fingers, it will be there for weeks. Wear gloves when using this glue! Always pack a set of gloves in your fursuit repair kit.

Replacing Fursuit Whiskers

Many fursuits will come with whiskers, and while different makers may attach them in different ways, a common technique is using clear fishing line as whiskers by sewing them into the fursuit directly. Because these are such a small detail in a suit, they may come loose with age or roughhousing. Here are the steps to use in order to replace whiskers that are created in this fashion.

1. Thread some fishing line into a sewing needle

2. Stick the sewing needle into the muzzle of your suit where you would like your whisker to be, then pull it out through where you want another whisker to be.

3. Cut the needle from your fishing line and then trim the whiskers to the length that you want, then you are done!
